Michigan Tech announced on Thursday that Bill Muckalt was its new head coach. That sent shockwaves throughout college hockey because the university did not previously announce that it had fired Joe Shawhan.

The Lions are conducting a coaching search for the second straight season, but their goals and aspirations have not changed.
