Dave Hakstol has Arizona State in good hands, not just for now but for the long haul. That leads off my weekend reactions.
Also inside:
For now, Michigan is the clear No. 1 team in the country.
Gophers fans should trust the process with new coach Brett Larson. It’ll work out, but Minnesota needs to find the right compete level.
Stick tap to Northeastern’s Sam Caulfield for rising to the occasion.
I’m not sure what to make of Minnesota State’s rough weekend, but I think the Mavericks will be OK.
New Hampshire is winning in a different way, and the Wildcats have looked solid defensively since a lopsided opening-night loss.
What does Penn State need to do to turn around an 0-3 start?
Niagara and RPI had big weekends, thanks largely to their goaltenders.
Providence is the best team in Hockey East, but who’s next? And is the league already in trouble when it comes to NCAA bids? There’s still time to improve its nonconference record, with several big games on tap this weekend.
Weekend Reactions: ASU’s program is in good hands, and Gophers fans should trust the process
Arizona State will be just fine under Dave Hakstol
Not just in the immediate future, either. Long term, the Sun Devils are better positioned as a program.
I don’t think anyone was really worried about whether ASU would be OK under Dave Hakstol. But this weekend’s sweep of UMass Lowell, which started only about 24 hours after Hakstol met his players for the first time, is a good sign that the program is in good hands.
The thing is, ASU is a prime destination in college hockey. Who wouldn’t want to live in Tempe? It’s a big athletic department with resources, a new arena and year-round golf.
