It’s Thanksgiving weekend in the United States, which traditionally brings marquee non-conference matchups and a slate of regular-season tournaments — a staple of the college hockey calendar I’ve always admired. It’s unfortunate that so many of these in-season events have fallen by the wayside.

Before diving into the games, some notable news out of Tempe. Arizona State extended head coach Greg Powers last week, and his position has been endowed thanks to a gift from a dedicated season-ticket-holding family.

Now, onto the action. We’ll break down the Adirondack Winter Invitational, the Friendship Four, Boston College vs. Notre Dame, Colorado College vs. Providence, Long Island vs. Lindenwood, and the return of Red Hot Hockey at Madison Square Garden, where BU and Cornell renew acquaintances.

And yes — I’ve got one pick for tonight. We went 5-1 last Friday, but only a single matchup stands out this evening as worth the plunge.
