(28) Sacred Heart
Storylines
The Pioneers went 21-13-5 last season and lost to eventual conference champion, Bentley, in the AHA semifinals. The Pioneers posted their best win total since a 21-win season in 2019-20.
The Pioneers will take part in the Friendship Four this season and will open the tournament against Union.
Over the summer, Peter Pulaski was named the Director of Hockey Performance.
Analysis
Yes, you’re reading that graphic correctly — I have the Pioneers entering the season with the No. 5-ranked goaltending in the country.
I’ll pause here while some of you snicker … and now I’ll prove the point.
Ajeet Gundarah delivered an immaculate freshman campaign, appearing in 26 games and posting a .936 save percentage with a 1.90 goals-against average. Admittedly, his strength of schedule didn’t match what netminders face in the NCHC, Big Ten or Hockey East, but you can only play the teams on your schedule — and Gundarah did that at an elite level.
