Also: Another top CHL’er could go to the NCAA, a clarification on draft rights, new assistants at UVM and Alaska, another portal window, House settlement opt-in notes, and more
The Gavin McKenna saga could soon come to a close. This issue is a long notebook with notes from around college hockey, but it leads off with what seems like a pending commitment decision from the projected No. 1 pick in 2026.
Who is in? What do the offers look like? We’ll break it down.
Also in this issue (#573):
On top of McKenna, is there another top CHL’er heading to college? It seems like No. 6 overall pick Porter Martone is either going to sign with the Flyers, or NCAA could be an option.
We have a clarification on NHL Draft rights when it comes to NCAA players.
Nate Skidmore is the new assistant coach at Vermont. Plus, notes on the opening at Merrimack and Alaska also has a new member of the coaching staff. Penn State made Vince Pedrie’s hiring official.
There’s going to be a second transfer portal window that opens next week. We’ll explain why, and who it’s for.
We have House opt-in notes from Hockey East, including Maine and UMass Lowell opting in to the settlement.
Miami lost a recruit to the KHL.
Finally, best wishes to Stonehill goalie Dylan Ghaemi, who was the victim of a horrific attack last week in his hometown.
