Q. Hey Mike, I’m sure you saw the accounts reporting that Landon DuPont was getting $1 million in NIL money from Michigan. I know you saw them because I saw your response on Twitter. If he’s not getting $1 million (and are you sure he’s not? McKenna was paid handsomely) how much do you think he is getting?
I’m glad you asked! Let’s set the record straight.
No, he’s not getting $1 million from Michigan. That’s absurd.
I’m not sure where that figure originated, but I believe it began circulating on Instagram through some aggregator accounts. One of them attributed the report to Sportsnet, but I couldn’t find any evidence that Sportsnet ever reported it, so I don’t buy that attribution. Personally, I think an account that gets paid based on views posted a graphic designed to generate views — and it worked.
