Five biggest surprise teams through the first month of the season (#488)

Today’s issue (#488) also includes:
— Several NCAA-committed USHL players are leaving for the CHL. The latest example included an OHL team announcing a player’s signing, and describing him as a “University of Minnesota commit.”
— The Athletic’s NHL Draft rankings are out, and include several NCAA players (including the No. 1 overall player).
— North Dakota added a goalie to its roster and lost a committed defenseman.
— Plus, a bunch of notes on the NCAA’s ongoing legal battles.
