St. Thomas is leaving the CCHA for the NCHC. Brad Schlossman of the Grand Forks Herald first reported the story on Wednesday morning. Sources have confirmed it to College Hockey Insider.
St. Thomas will continue to play in the CCHA for the next two seasons and join the NCHC as its 10th team in 2026-27, which coincides with the first season St. Thomas is eligible for NCAA postseason competition.
The CCHA will revert back to eight teams. The league added Augustana last season and it will become a full member in 2025-26.
I saw the post also on the St. Thomas website. https://tommiesports.com/news/2024/5/15/mens-hockey-st-thomas-mens-hockey-to-join-the-nchc.aspx As an NCHC (Denver) fan, it’s definitely exciting. More competition, yes, but a major metropolitan presence in the State of Hockey.
