Breaking: Atlantic Hockey president reinstate Robert Morris
The presidents of Atlantic Hockey's 11 programs ratified a vote from the league's athletic directors which was the final step in reinstating Robert Morris to the league, according to multiple sources. The athletic directors voted last month to reinstate Robert Morris.Â
The Robert Morris program was cut last May by former president Dr. Christopher Howard but it was reinstated earlier this year after a fundraising effort led in large part by the head coach of the men's team, Derek Schooley. Atlantic Hockey had originally dropped the program from the league when it was cut last year.
Atlantic Hockey will now shift its focus to the potential admittance of Utica. The school is in the process of moving its entire athletic department to Division II. With no Division II championship, the Utica men's hockey program is looking for a Division I conference (they would be allowed to play up because there is no D-II championship). Utica is expected to be a hot topic for the league coaches and administrators when they met in Naples, Fla. for the annual AHCA convention later this month.
