i'm wondering why d1 hockey coaches, on average, are paid SO much less than those for football, and basketball. i realize revenues to the programs are a driver but am asking because of the salary 'discrepancy' at my alma. it has what i'll classify as an average b-ball program and a 'lame' football program yet hands out to (unproven) relatively new coaches, in both cases, well over $1M salaries while its hockey coach (proven beyond a doubt, generational transformation of program, multiple post-season successes) receives well under half what the b-ball and f-ball coaches do - and has been at the job several years longer than both combined. neither has any history of consistent success elsewhere. WTF. i hope you can shed some light on what, apparently, i'm missing in fully understanding the world of college sports coach compensation dynamics. i believe the highest paid (all-in) d1 coach is MI State's nightingale (?) i really feel for our coach. he deserves far better compensation than what he gets. i seriously doubt that many, who follow/support the team as well as, if not more than, i do would disagree with me.
i'd like to submit a question as follow-up to your mention about team finances. where do i submit it? thanks for reading.
