College hockey delivered plenty of action Saturday night. In one of the weekend’s premier nonconference matchups, Quinnipiac beat Providence and handed the Friars their first loss of the season.

Elsewhere, Ohio State gave Michigan its first loss, Michigan State beat North Dakota in the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Game, all four Hockey East conference games went to overtime, and Dartmouth opened its season with a big win over Alaska.

This issue has every score from Saturday night, with notes from every game.

Quinnipiac 5, Providence 1

The Bobcats picked up a big nonconference home win over the previously unbeaten Friars, and special teams made the difference. Quinnipiac went 2-for-4 on the power play and killed all five of Providence’s chances. Andon Cerbone had a hat trick.

Michigan State 5, North Dakota 3

The Spartans won the first college hockey game ever played in Texas. Cooper Simpson tied it for North Dakota on a power-play goal with 3:52 left, but just 19 seconds later, Cayden Lindstrom powered his way to the net to put Michigan State back on top.

Simpson scored twice for UND, and Anthony Romani had two goals for the Spartans.

Dartmouth 6, Alaska 0

The Big Green opened their season with a convincing win, outshooting Alaska 31-13. Drew Stewart had a hat trick and an assist, and Nikita Nikora had four points.
