RPI cancels hockey season
RPI will announce today that it will become the latest NCAA program to cancel its 2020-21 hockey season. RPI’s decision comes on the heels of RIT, Alaska-Anchorage and the Ivy League announcing similar decisions last week.
We reported last week to our premium subscribers that it was looking bleak as far as RPI moving forward with the 2020-21 season. The Houston Fieldhouse did not have ice, and players were renting ice on their own twice per week as well as traveling to a boxing gym to workout due to training facilities being closed to the student-athletes.
This also puts the ECAC in a difficult position. With the six Ivy League schools already having canceled and now RPI following with their own cancelation, the ECAC is down to just five teams for the 2020-21 season.
We’ll have more on this later for premium subscribers …
