(1) Bemidji State head coach Tom Serratore announced that he will retire following the 2026-27 season, with associate head coach Travis Winter set to take over in 2027-28.
(2) Multiple stories were published over the last 24 hours on the situation at Arizona State. Some of the reporting contained conflicting accounts, but the stories also provided new details about the Aug. 20 workout during which Matthew Mayich collapsed, what led up to the workout and how Mayich was treated in the immediate aftermath.
(3) The NCAA moved its 2027 regional from Bridgeport to Hartford after Bridgeport lost its AHL team and announced that it will not install ice at the venue this season.
Bemidji State’s Tom Serratore to retire after 2026-27 season; Travis Winter to take over
Bemidji State head coach Tom Serratore informed BSU players and alumni Wednesday that he will retire following the 2026-27 season. Former Beaver and current associate head coach Travis Winter will succeed him as head coach of the program.
Serratore, who has always been known for a great quote, told The Bemidji Pioneer on Wednesday, “Now’s not the time to sing kumbaya or anything yet. We have a season to play.”
A Bemidji State alum, Serratore took over for Bob Peters in 2001. He has led the Beavers to five NCAA Tournament appearances. Bemidji State was also on pace to make a sixth appearance in 2020 before the tournament was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Beavers won the CHA Tournament three times under Serratore, and he has six regular-season conference championships on his resume: four in the CHA, one in the WCHA and one in the CCHA.
Winter has been on the Bemidji State staff since 2014.
