Miami closing in on Anthony Noreen as next head coach
Miami is closing in on Anthony Noreen as its next head coach.
Brad Elliott Schlossmann of The Grand Forks Herald reported the news first on Monday. College Hockey Insider sources also say that Noreen is the favorite and likely target.
Noreen, 41, has been the head coach of the Tri-City Storm (USHL)since 2017. He was named the team’s president of hockey operations in 2019 (while retaining his role as head coach). He was named USHL Coach of the Year in 2022.
Noreen is a graduate of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. He began his coaching career there as an assistant (2007-10) and was hired by the Youngstown Phantoms as an assistant coach in 2010. In 2011, Noreen was promoted to head coach and GM of the Phantoms. He also had a two-year stint as head coach of the Orlando Solar Bears (ECHL) from 2015-17.
We reported this weekend (#410) that sources said that Noreen was considered a finalist alongside Cleveland Monsters (AHL) head coach Trent Vogelhuber.
Noreen was a finalist for the St. Lawrence job in 2016 and 2019. Those jobs went to Mark Morris (2016) and Brent Brekke (2019). Brekke is a former Miami assistant coach.
Miami is hiring a replacement for Chris Bergeron, who was fired last month.
