Here's what I am hearing about the coaching search at Brown
Plus: Former Western Michigan goalie Brandon Bussi signs an extension, and more

Brown has moved swiftly in its search for a new men’s hockey coach, defying the conventional expectations that often surround Ivy League hiring timelines. When it was announced a few weeks ago that Brendan Whittet would step down to take a family medical leave, many in the coaching community assumed Brown would wait until the season’s end before even beginning its process. The prevailing belief was that Ivy programs operate on a different clock, and that athletics, in some cases, sit lower on the priority list.
Instead, Brown Vice President for Athletics M. Grace Calhoun has pushed the process forward aggressively. And she deserves credit for that. I think it shows a sense of urgency and an acknowledgement that the hockey program is a priority at the university.
The university conducted multiple Zoom interviews last week, and several potential candidates have already visited campus, according to sources.
All of it signals intent. Brown wants to get out in front of this year’s coaching carousel, and the university’s urgency reflects a clear desire to invest in the direction of the program.
