Brendan Riley will be named new head coach at Long Island
Brendan Riley will be the next head coach at Long Island, sources confirmed to College Hockey Insider.
Riley, 29, has been at AIC for the past four seasons. He began as the director of hockey operations in 2021 and was promoted to assistant coach in 2022. Riley began his coaching career in 2020 as an assistant coach at Winchendon following his four-year career as a forward at Mercyhurst.
Riley is the son of recently retired Army head coach Brian Riley. He’s cousins with Brett Riley, who departed LIU for the Ferris State job two weeks ago.
While at AIC, Riley helped the Yellow Jackets win two AHA regular-season titles, two AHA tournament championships, and made two appearances in the NCAA Tournament.
“Brendan is probably the youngest coach in college hockey,” Eric Lang told College Hockey News last summer. “He's incredibly smart. He has so many traits and characteristics of his dad, and he's a brilliant hockey kid. He sees the game incredibly well. You could take this to the bank: he will be a Division I head coach at some point, probably sooner than later. He's that good.”
